ICT for Health Science Research
Peter L. Reichertz was a pioneer in applying information technology to health care. Together with François Grémy, he introduced the phrase "Medical Informatics" and its key paradigm, providing "the right information at the right place at the right time" when he started his academic work in this field at the Hannover Medical School, MHH, Germany in 1969. Prof. Reichertz was the first president of European Federation of Medical Informatics, EFMI.
This EFMI Special Topic Conference (STC) is dedicated to Prof. Peter L. Reichertz, celebrating his 50th academic anniversary in medical informatics: In 1969, Peter L. Reichertz became Full Pofessor at the newly founded MHH in Germany. He held the first chair of the department on medical documentation and data processing –later the Medical Informatics Department – at that time including the Medical Computer Center. In the early eighties, he established with Prof. D. Peter Pretschner the Medical Informatics courses at the University of Braunschweig, Institute of Technology. In 2007, the departments in Hanover and Braunschweig joined forces and became the Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics, PLRI.
PLRI is hosting the STC 2019 meeting on behalf of the German EFMI institution, GMDS, in collaboration with EFMI Translational Health Informatics Work Group and other IMIA, EFMI, and GMDS working groups from April 7th to April 10th, 2019, at the historic Leibniz House, which is located directly in the city center of Hannover as well as the MHH.
